Where is this (generally, obviously), that your kid has the choice of meat substitute any time there's a meat main? Both my kids are vegetarian and of there's a meat main, they are getting sunbutter sandwiches.

This is in MA, though, where we have universal school lunches.

The only problem is that it's not free. Might be great for the occasional opiate user or someone whose worried about their molly being tainted with fent...but addicts gonna addict. Money spent on narcan is money not spent on their next fix.

    Why no sit/stand trucks?

We should have the technology to make a safe sit/stand mail truck. Especially when most of the route is < 15MPH.

Mail carriers, at least the ones in rural routes and some of the more sparse suburbs, spend a lot of time sitting. That can't be good for them. Even just having the option to stand while working should be doable.

And they aren't the only ones who could find a benefit to such a design...any sort of last-mile delivery service. Mail, newspaper, milk, packages, etc. Anybody who is either getting in and out frequently or is maintaining a very low speed through most of their route.

If the party itself doesn't expect people to vote, then why vote for them?

They want you to join their mailing list, , understand the platform, and hopefully a decent percentage of people will work to bolster them in local elections over the next four years.

You really have a lot of faith in your fellow Americans, don't you?

Understand the spoiler effect. A vote for a third party is guaranteed to support the first-party that you likely oppose the most. It does not help anybody, except for whoever is furthest from your goals.

You think we will get any traction on voting reform with a first-party in charge? No. The game is massively stacked in the established parties favor, and changing that will damage their power, unless they form strong allegiances with third parties who caucus along side them.

They need to work from the ground up. You need a reality check. This country will go to hell in a hand basket if everyone who leans even a little bit left doesn't step up and vote for the establishment candidate on the left.

We're already halfway there. Look around. Look at how expensive homes and food are. The middle class no longer exists. The majority of them are drowning in revolving credit debt trying to keep their families heads above water. Anybody who is deeply indebted is, obviously, beyond broke.

And worse than that, my family pays more in health insurance premiums than we do in food. That is fucked. Staying healthy shouldn't be more expensive than staying alive.

The correct stopping distance, as I was told, is "far enough back to see where their back tires touch the ground". Pretty good rule of thumb. Gives more space for larger vehicles who may not see a jaywalker in front of them.

Nothing to gain by being right up the ass of the car in front of you. Unless maybe you realize you're blocking the entrance to a business/secondary street and you try to be "nice".

Nuh uh. I was born here. My parents were born here. (/s, of course)

Let's not go back any further than that because it hurts the argument.

For context, I am 50% Italian, 25% French, 12.5% Irish, and 12.5% English. At least going off what my parents had told me. I never did a DNA test or anything.

It's been barely 60 years since racism against Italian- and Irish-American individuals really eased up. All based on xenophobia and an anti-Catholic belief. Before that, they may as well have been Black. Or worse, Japanese.

Tons of people alive today that experienced it first hand. Did all the lead in the paint and gasoline make them forget all about it?

Even still today we have to tiptoe around ideas like renaming Columbus Day. On the one hand, he was a massive piece of shit. On the other hand, it's morphed into the only holiday celebrating Italian-American heritage. I very much agree with the former, but if we are gonna go all-out on St. Patrick's Day, Italians should have a day too.

Maybe we could make a bigger deal out of St. Joseph. I could really go for a zeppole right about now, but that's really all I know of the day. It's a day for a zeppole.

Homesteading is really cottage-core plus self-sufficency. Little House on the Prairie.

Gardening on crack. Not commercial farming.

Honestly...I got 9 hens now, and they are amazing. Literally the best pets. My wife wants to become a homesteader and live that life. Get some acreage, build a nice home and a nice area for the birds. Maybe Get a goat or two. Step up the gardening game.

The wife would probably have to quit her job, but she's only working part time at a grocery store. Her employee discount (20%) is more valuable to us then her paycheck, and we don't need that if we mostly living off our own grown food.

Would likely have to wait until the kids are a bit older and can help out more, too.

And for interest rates to go down...I refi'd in early 2022, I ain't given that up.

But it would be nice to be able to sell off a portion of land of we find ourselves hard off for cash. Or to know that my kids will have a place to build a home if the market falls flat on its face.

    Technically, yes.

Assuming the canabee is consenting freely, and likely has to be done in a way not violating other laws. Like some variety of a pain kink where people slice of small portions of each others meaty bits and eat them. That's probably a thing, though likely not very popular among vegans.

So then what is to be gained by voting for Stein? A clean conscience about the atrocities abroad?

That's cool. Remember that when there are even more atrocities here against your brown and LGBTQ neighbors, while the atrocities abroad dial it up to 11.

Remember that when there's more middle-class homelessness because there's not enough contractors with all the deported. Or not enough food when there's no immigrant labor to tend to the fields. Certainly not enough domestic labor to keep the farms running along with everything else.

Assuming their original country takes them back. If not, they stay here as detainees. Now we are paying to host them in the prison system. But, at least since illegal immigration is a crime, they can essentially be near-free labor thanks to the 13th amendment. Is that the right way to fix the housing crisis? Or lower the costs of food?

Not saying we can't be world police. That position benefits us greatly and give us tons of soft power. But maybe we should worry about keeping our own house from caving in on itself before we start trying to fix someone else's.

Honestly the idea that a real estate tycoon who is addicted to Big Mac's could fix the housing and food markets is laughably absurd. He'll fix 'em alright...just not in the direction most of his supporters are expecting.

How many people voted for Biden at the 1/6 riots?

You could believe the propaganda, but I have a hard time believing that anybody who voted Biden would've been plotting to overthrow the government in Trump's favor.

Maybe if they are very noble/gullible and also believe that the election was stolen, but I have a very hard time believing that too. Most people won't travel hundreds or thousands of miles to overthrow a government unless they firmly believe in the would-be leaders platform.

Omg TF Greene (PVD) was like that. Don't know if it still is.

The security guard there likes the power trips. Even if there's no other cars lined up at arrivals, and you can see your passenger walking towards you with bags in hand. She will yell at you and try to get you to move along and do a 3 minute loop around the parking lot.

    That's great. I Agree.

We got four more years to do that, if Trump doesn't win.

We've had tons of time to change voting systems.

All the third parties couldve banded together to get it done. Ya know. With all their existing seats of power in federal, state, and local government.

    Oh wait.

    Hint. Hint.

A third party would be worthless if it won federal office right now. It would be roadblocked every step of the way.

I agree that our voting system needs an overhaul. But don't try to do it by electing a third party president. It'll never work, and if it did, they would be falling flat on their face for four more years and paint a terrible picture for the future of all third parties.

A protest vote means absolutely nothing, except that it helps the least-aligned primary party power. You are bolstering your opponent to do so. Literally cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Think about it as if its about consent. The bees don't consent to their honey being taken. Cows don't consent to be repeatedly impregnated and milked. Pigs don't consent to their butts becoming bacon. Chickens don't consent to their eggs being taken.

However, the miller and the baker both consented to milling/kneading, and later selling their wares.

Human breast milk can be vegan, though, if given freely. If you forcefully take human breast milk, then it is no longer vegan.

  • The bumper...I don't know what it's called...that little clip with the snow that fades in and reveals the logo. It's terrible. For one, a lot of people actually don't know what TV static is. Analog broadcasts stopped almost 16 years ago, and before that, most younger people had cable. For another, static is really difficult to compress. It looks *horrible* and consumes way too much bandwidth for just a couple of seconds that won't even load right. If anything, they should cache a local copy of the bumper in-app in a format that doesn't look like ass when every pixel changes every frame.

While $1m USD in 1988 is worth only $2.6m in 2024, if they just put it in the S&P 500 back then and left it there, it'd be worth over $44.6m today. I don't know if the Dijon ketchup is really worth it.
