I upgraded only because the speakers on my 12 Mini were failing making it nearly impossible to have a phone call. (1) This phone is too big, heavy, and slippery and uneasy to grasp with one hand. (2) The camera bump is ridiculously large. It’s laughable how much it rocks on the counter as you type on it. Not in a good way. (3) The Camera button is in the worst place (accidentally clicking it constantly) and too confusing so I disabled it forever. (4) I also disabled the action button. This seems too easy to disable silent mode which I have enabled 99.9% of the time. (5) The screen is noticeably worse and has a blue cast. It’s not as sharp and the contrast is dull. (6) I love the material used on the back, even though it makes it difficult to hold. I fully understand the hardware is significantly more advanced but the iPhone 16 genuinely feels like a downgrade from the iPhone 12 Mini. I’m not happy at all. I’m going to stop by the Apple Store this weekend and look at getting the SE.
The inconvenience of being on US English (I'm Australian) simply wasn't worth it for me and I've switched it off. The summaries are okay but not groundbreaking Photos features are gimmicky Siri is no more useful, only benefit is it was now more responsive and accurate for Home Control commands Most features simply don't exist yet I'm kinda shocked Apple has rushed this to market in the current state How have you been finding AppleInt?
I have been trying in vain to do this in both automator and shortcuts. The trouble seems to be happening right at the very start. I can't seem to figure out how to get selected files from finder to be passed as input to a shell script running exiftool. I actually thought this might be a good thing for me to test using chatGPT for as it's meant to be good at this type of thing and while I assume the shell scripts it was generating were probably good, it couldn't seem to get me passed this basic first step. I've tried making the shortcut a quick action, which by default adds the 'receive' action to the shortcut, but somehow it seems to be impossible to get the output from that to be the input for the shell script, nothing works. This was tested with a few debugging steps to log the output and it definitely looks like that first step is where things are going wrong. I really don't get it. This was way harder than I expected.
I'm trying to avoid having to throw away my decklink mini monitor 4k that I used in my old PC build. It's a PCIe gen 2 4-lane card. To replace this card with something new of similar function that uses external ports, I have to either buy something quite a bit worse in terms of function for a little bit more than my current PCIe version currently costs, or something equivalent in function for way, way more than the 4k decklink costs. I figured best bet would be to just get a PCIe enclosure to keep using my old card with the new laptop but the costs of those enclosures are STAGGERING, just unbelievably high. The cheapest I could find is 2nd hand and so old it uses TB2 ports. I thought that *might* be okay with thunderbolt adaptors for modern connectors but it occurs to me that Apple Silicon driver support could be an issue. Any idea if it would even work?
A Senior Advisor at Apple Support told me a few minutes ago that if I am wearing the watch the notifications go there and not the phone, and that’s how it was designed and there’s nothing I can do. I’ve had the watch for a good few months now, and I could totally be crazy, but I do NOT remember this fuckery being the case back then. Am I nuts?
https://beta.maps.apple.com/ It doesn’t seem to support Firefox, or not yet at least. [Maps on the web is compatible with these web browsers](https://support.apple.com/en-us/120585) >**On your Mac or iPad** >- Safari >- Edge >- Chrome > >**On your Windows PC** >- Edge >- Chrome
This may be a stupid question, I realize.

Let’s continue our marvelous trip into GUI Wonderland, where we’ll learn 80s computing alongside our trusty Apple Lisa, the first personal computer with a GUI! Disponibile anche in 🇮🇹
I really love and regularly use a split keyboard. I’ve been hoping to fix these bugs for many years, for a very long time. The bug has been reported many times by me and other suffering users. No changes in all these years.
I'm trying not to just resist everything new in mac OS right away, but this whole focus concept and do not disturb mode turning on without me asking it to and not having any option to disable it is just too much. I can imagine maybe using this in some exceptional circumstances where it actually occurred to me to do so, but I definitely want it to be a conscious decision. In the preferences I could find no off switch. I tried setting it to only turn on when I'm in Antarctica and off when I'm not but it didn't seem to actually work as the little moon icon remained there even after this. I also tried to scheduling it to operate in a one minute window but even after that window elapsed it continued to be in 'do not disturb mode'. I don't tend to get a whole lot of notifications nor rely on them much but frankly the idea that they're being suppressed not under direction from me is infuriating and I don't want that to happen.
I really, really hate Stage Manager on the iPad, but I want to use an external display to allow me to have 3 or 4 apps open at a time and all showing. I.e. not just mirroring my old style multitasking display on the external monitor. Come on [@apple](https://lemmy.ml/c/apple)

If this feature is important to you, you may want to update to 17.4.

Hi. In Germany, AirPods Max cost around 570€ including VAT. You really can't get them any cheaper. I recently bought a used one for 405€ from a reputable commercial seller with warranty. I'm sure that Apple will release the second gen APM this year. Do you think I can resell mine for at least 300€ in a year? Should I return it and wait for the new release?

Hey all! I think at one point I changed the balance of my audio output (an earbud was a little dead so I shifted the amount of sound coming out of the left and right to compensate). I’ve long since gotten a new pair of headphones but sometimes I connect them and the balance has reverted back! It drives me bananas (I’m the sort of person who must turn on the mono sound accessibility feature bc stereo effects make me dizzy) and I have no idea if it’s something I’m doing to trigger the behavior or if I’m stuck with it until this computer dies. Anyone else experiencing this or have any ideas about how to fix it?
I ordered an iPhone on Black Friday and had their courier deliver it to me. They hired one of the Spark Drivers (Walmart owned) to deliver it. They said it was delivered and never showed up. Then Apple refused to do anything about it and their official response after hours of calling was, “call the police.” So I filed a police report (that went nowhere) and told my credit card to reject the charge. Don’t use this service.
With one of the recent iOS updates, it seems like they changed playlist images. I really liked having the 4 album covers so I could get a sense of what the playlist sounds like. Now newly-created playlists default to a plain image. You can edit the playlist to select from other patterns, but there's no option for the old, tiled style. Is there any workaround to get it back?
On my MBP, if I'm streaming something to the chromecast for any appreciable length of time the display sleeps. That's not a bad thing, it's supposed to do that, but the trouble is, if I want to pause playback, it's not a matter of simply hitting the pause key to immediately pause. This is because pressing any key wakes up the display and presents the login prompt. To pause, I have correctly type in my password, and then in the appropriate app hit the pause button. This process takes several seconds and if I needed to pause because of wanting to freeze on something I'm viewing, or because something around me is happening that demands immediate halt to playback for me to attend to it, then this lag between the decision to pause and when I've finally paused is really just way too long. To make it worse, if I'm streaming youtube and this happens, the playback controls presented via the browser on the video page stop controlling the chromecast stream, the pause key does nothing. I can eventually pause (though not seek) via the player notification controls but it's not ideal.
Hi guys, I'm currently building a mobile application using Flutter. Until now my target platform was Android but I'd like to build and publish it for iOS as well. For this I need access to macOS environment, both to build the application and to test it in iOS Simulator. Please note that I don't intend to actually develop on this machine. I'm considering a few options like running macOS VM on my machine (no luck so far) or using some kind of cloud VM. The most obvious option is to just buy a Mac of course. However, I really don't want to spend a lot on this and Apple computers aren't exactly known for being affordable. Here's my question: which MacBook would you recommend to buy used just for the purposes I listed above? I tried googling this of course but it's really hard for me to find any useful advice. Please note that I have no knowledge about Apple devices and ecosystem whatsoever, I never used any of them.
Mac sales are down. I’m really not surprised. They are just a bit too expensive once you start upgrading the storage and ram. I have been holding out on buying a Mac since the M2 was rumored to come out. I keep hoping that the base model will have a larger amount of storage and ram, but it does not. They keep selling faster processors, but I do not need that, I need more storage and I’d like more ram. At this point, I’m just going to buy a used M1 air. If Apple had 512 and 26 standard on the base air, I’d pickup a new one today. Do you disagree? What can Apple do to increase Mac sales?
Just a heads up, I'm not an apple user, it never clicked with me but this might be the best spot to get an answer for my specific use case. What I do like was their old 3.5 mm jack earphones, but the playback controls never worked right on my android phone, probably because of the wiring layout or some DRM screwery. I've been looking to buy a second pair of them as my primary one has been confiscated by my better half, and I saw that they put out a USB-C version of those. If any one has those headphones, can you test them out on an android device, or if you are sure can comment if the volume and playback controls work outside Apple's devices or are they locked to just their devices? I didn't see that info in any reviews and would know that bit of info before buying them blind.
Grrrr 😠 Screenshot shows Canadian dollars.

Just thought I’d give an update since my last post, I submitted the bug report to Apple and this morning got confirmation that they’re aware of the issue and “Potential fix identified- For a future OS update”
Happened whilst charging, was on 39% when I connected it to the charger, fell asleep for a couple of hours woke up to the Apple logo and it restarting, it was fully charged upon booting back up. Wonder what’s causing this? I’m also on iOS 17.1 Beta 3 so isn’t just an issue relating to just iOS 17.0, 17.0.1, 17.0.2 and 17.0.3 etc as some has suggested.
Hey everyone, I got a new iPhone 15 Pro, and I keep getting prompts to login to an old old old Apple ID that as far as I can tell, doesn't exist anymore. No password is accepted and when it goes to be reset, I get the notification that "This Apple ID is not valid or not supported". I know it did exist at one point, though I'm not sure it was before everything got converted to the Apple ID system, and as far as I know, there's nothing on the phone that requires this Apple ID, no music apps or anything. Anyone know how I can fix this?
Wilmer Becerra of Wiltech, in Colombia, has more than 6 million Facebook followers and over 5 million TikTok followers https://wiltechoficial.com/ edit: since many seem to be confused: he doesn’t use the Apple logo anywhere on his website (you can check above) or in his videos — Apple is upset because the iPhones shown in his videos have the Apple logo on the back of the device which can be seen in the video while he’s repairing it. In the letter from Apple’s law firm, they have specifically asked him to stop repairing Apple devices.
When you click on the Search Web button in the menu, it opens Safari, even if the default browser is set to another one. The reason why I'm not using Safari is that it's very slow for some reason. It's not just because my iPad is 5th gen. In fact, Orion browser works very fast.
Since my favorite player (Swinsian) tends to cause stuttering issues with my MBP everytime my system load exceeds 55%, I'm looking for alternatives to play my lossless files. Apple Music and iTunes are out of question. Thank you kindly
