Fedora Linux
Good day, Could someone advise on this? For some reason firefox does not want to use the kde theming, menus, title bars, pop ups etc. As per attached, that should state "Breeze" just like in arch and opensuse. Re-installing does not help, I have the auto-system theme selected. (!)Solution: Settings > Application Style > GNOME/GTK Application Style If you have installed Fedora KDE it should be set to breeze by default. 1. Change it to the "default" option and then apply. 2. Change it back to breeze then apply and you should be set.
I'm sure I saw somewhere some while ago a way to remove old/obsolete packages from an system-upgraded install. Packages that wouldn't be removed because they're dependencies somewhere still. For example, the xorg drivers can be removed from my F40 when upgraded to f41 install. As if I'd installed it from the to-be f41 everything iso. I can't find it from the documentation; can someone point me in the right direction, please. I can't quite remember but I think it was an official Fedora package that one 'installs' which contains a script to remove obsolete packages from the prior Fedora version. UPDATE: found it. https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/quick-docs/upgrading-fedora-offline/#sect-clean-up-retired-packages
Hi everyone! For a while, I've been using the surface kernel for my Surface Go using Fedora 40. The other day I tried to clone my installation with Clonezilla to put it on another old computer I had lying around. It didn't work and I have a suspicion that it didn't because of the surface kernel so I'm trying to use the stock kernel instead. After a few modifications, usinge uname -a, this is the output I get: Linux surface-go-fedora-de-guillaume 6.10.10-200.fc40.x86_64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Thu Sep 12 18:26:09 UTC 2024 x86_64 GNU/Linux When using uname -mrs, this is the output I get: Linux 6.10.10-200.fc40.x86_64 x86_64 Can someone with more knowledge than me confirm that everything is back to stock form as I don't know if the SMP PREEMPT thing shoud be there? Doe's anyone know if the Surface Kernel is probably what prevented me from cloning my installation and putting it on another computer?

Initially I didn't like Fedora Flatpaks, but they have grown on me. What I really like about them is how they are built directly from Fedora RPMs. Unlike Flathub, they don't pull and build dependencies directly off the internet (which may not get timely updates). Instead those dependencies come from Fedora's repos. The way Fedora Flatpaks get built are also much more consistent since they just use Fedora's infrastructure. Meanwhile flatpaks on Flathub may be repackaged Appimages, snaps, tar.gzs, built from source, etc. Though there is the obvious downside of Fedora Flatpaks which is missing media codecs. So if an app needs codecs, I just end up using Flathub versions. And Flathub for whatever isn't in the Fedora Flatpaks repo.
Hey, folks, I'm hoping someone here can help me out. I have a laptop that has been messed up for a while, and I just got it repaired. I was using as basically a desktop, external monitor, mouse, keyboard. I just got it repaired and would like to use it as a laptop again. My problem is that something like 2 years ago, I edited some setting so that I could close the lid of the laptop and it wouldn't suspend, but I can't remember how I did it, and now it won't suspend when I close it, which is less than convenient for use as a laptop. I googled, but it's not in GNOME tweaks anymore, and I'm not sure how to do any of the stuff I see people posting about terminal commands. I can follow instructions for command line stuff, but I sort of need it spelled out for me from step 1. Any help is really appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Hello all, basically the title... I just want to be sure so that there are no issues. It is one of the newer ones that have the kernel modules open source.
If I have to ill wipe and rebuild, but I thought it might be an interesting experiment to convert it and see how well it goes... Is it likely to be a significant undertaking? Or just a few commands ?

I have a fedora with GNOME. When i want to use a mod key in virtual machine in GNOME Boxes my main os captures it and shows workspaces. What should I do to use mod key inside a virtual machine in GNOME Boxes?
original post: https://lemmy.world/post/16475168 I've activated automatic updates in Gnome Software Center. Now more and more updates are shown to me here. Even after a reboot, the update notifications are still there. If I manually click on "update all" and reboot, the update notifications disappear, but I actually thought, after reading the documentation, that updates would require no action from me at all, and that's what I want. The weird thing is, the installed programs themselves claim to already be on the new, updated version. So why are the updates still shown in the Software Center?
I installed a GRUB theme and changed some options in the config but now I need to run ```update-grub``` (alias for ```grub2-mkconfig -o /etc/grub2-efi.cfg```) after every kernel update or else that new kernel version won't boot. Does anybody know a fix for this?
Hi, I am trying to print different text documents using mail merge wizard and when I try to print them, the Writer crahes every time. I did try to restart Writer into safe mode but did not help. I am using Fedora 40 and Writer Version: 24.2.3.2 (X86_64) Build ID: 420(Build:2) CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 6.8; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3 Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US Calc: threaded. Did anyone experienced similar error? Thanks
Recently I installed Fedora 40, I have a Intel Nuc with a 75Hz monitor but I tried different ways to set the refresh rate from 60 to 75 but I couldn't. What do I need to do? Any help is welcome because I didn't found any forum to help me to solve this problem.
Hi all, Edit: I use the KDE spin of Fedora 40 (updated after I posted this) and have a Windows 10 partition. However, I am not able to boot into Windows as it doesn't show up in GRUB. I've been encountering some frustrating issues with my Fedora Linux installation and I'm hoping someone here might be able to offer some guidance or solutions. I'm gonna post them all in this thread - please tell me if I should break each issue into individual 1. Time Setting: I've noticed that my system time doesn't seem to be setting correctly, even when I have automatic time synchronization enabled. The time in my BIOS is correct. Even when I try to set the time manually, it reverts back to the wrong settings. 2. Persistent Wi-Fi Password Prompts: Despite having saved my Wi-Fi password in the connection settings within KDE, I'm constantly being asked to re-enter it every time I connect. It's a bit of a hassle, My credentials are saved. 3. Browser Rendering Issues: When using both Chrome and Firefox on Fedora, I've noticed that certain websites, like Arduino.cc, don't load images or schematics properly. For example, when I try to access https://docs.arduino.cc/built-in-examples/basics/Blink/ the images fail to load. Strangely, I don't encounter this problem when using the same browsers on my Windows desktop. I have also tried to start Firefox in "fail safe" mode without addons enable but it does not make solve the issue. 4. Dual Boot Trouble: During the installation process, I managed to break my dual boot to Windows, which didn't happen when I initially tried out Linux Mint. The Linux Mint installer automatically managed to make my system dual boot through GRUB. However, I probably messed up in the Fedora installation process, and now I don't know how to fix it. 5. Driver Discovery: Despite enabling RPM Fusion for the Nvidia Driver, I cannot find the driver in the Discover app. Is there a step I might be missing, or a different approach I should take to locate and install the Nvidia driver? My hwinfo, using hwinfo --short:, removed keyboard, mouse etc. ``` cpu: 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1185G7 graphics card: nVidia TU117M [GeForce MX450] Intel TigerLake-LP GT2 [Iris Xe Graphics] sound: Intel Tiger Lake-LP Smart Sound Technology Audio Controller storage: Samsung Electronics NVMe SSD Controller PM9A1/PM9A3/980PRO network: wlp0s20f3 Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201 enp0s31f6 Intel Ethernet Connection (13) I219-LM network interface: enp0s31f6 Ethernet network interface lo Loopback network interface wlp0s20f3 Ethernet network interface disk: /dev/nvme0n1 Samsung Electronics NVMe SSD Controller PM9A1/PM9A3/980PRO /dev/zram0 Disk partition: /dev/nvme0n1p1 Partition /dev/nvme0n1p2 Partition /dev/nvme0n1p3 Partition /dev/nvme0n1p4 Partition /dev/nvme0n1p5 Partition /dev/nvme0n1p6 Partition /dev/nvme0n1p7 Partition ```
Just in case anyone else encounters this. If you had any custom settings for Wireplumber in a lua config you need to [migrate them to the new format](https://pipewire.pages.freedesktop.org/wireplumber/daemon/configuration/migration.html).
I've been using Arch as a daily driver for years and love it's customization level, then I realized I just want an OS that works. I need tips, advice, or even warnings before moving.
Maybe some of you already had the problem: mesa-freeworld from RPM-Fusion can be out of sync with the standard mesa packages. Once this led to a black screen after reboot for me. So, I decided to create a metapackage which pins the versions of all mesa dependencies to be compatible with mesa-freeworld. I published a Copr Repo with it, in case others think it is useful.
Title says it all. I changed my btrfs subvol names so I could use timeshift to manage my snapshots, after regenerating the initramfs and editing grub to point to the new subvol names all was fine however after I got a kernel upgrade recently, the latest grub entry for the kernel specifies the old subvol name, resulting in a failed boot. I dont know grub well enough to know what options to add to /etc/default/grub, or even if thats where I need to add it. After editing the entry manually it boots perfectly fine so theres my question. Is there a grub config option to specify the name for a subvolume to boot? I'd rather not manually edit grub.cfg every time theres a kernel update lol.
1. Does Silverblue being immutable has an effect on security, or is it more about stability and reliability? 2. Is it possible to have Nvidia drivers with Secure Boot on Silverblue, and how? Thanks a lot!
Is fedora coreos the right one? It mainly reads as if it was for clusters of servers or something like that.
re-publicado de: https://lemmy.ml/post/10758642 > Hey guys, I've finally started exploring talking about the work I'm doing with the Fedora Project as part of the marketing team and now as part of the design and magazine teams too! I really enjoy the "This Week in" style of weekly reports on all the work that is being done, so I'm looking forwards to sharing it like that! > > I'm also pushing to get this officially in the project (for more teams to do this weekly/monthly report) so we can actually create a project-wide newsletter, [something at least akin to a This Week in Fedora](https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/this-week-month-in-fedora-could-we-do-it/100768), and I'd really appreciate your feedback.
I can't resolve (ping, ssh) any computer on my network from a newly installed [minimal](https://old.reddit.com/r/Fedora/comments/lobnfm/guide_fedora_gnome_minimal_install/) Gnome Desktop F39 on a laptop; since it's minimal, it's possible something's missing from the installation. trying from the laptop gives: ``` $ ping server.local ping: server.local: Temporary failure in name resolution ``` pinging .box static DNS entries as well as IP addresses works. all other computers can resolve each other **and** the new laptop (1 debian, 1 fedora, 1 macOS), some have static, some dynamic IPs. they all get the DNS IP of my pi-hole, which resolves everything fine. resolve.conf and all other relevant files are stock. avahi and systemd-resolve are running and report no issues. same behaviour with WiFi and LAN. I could switch to static IPs and assign e.g. .box suffixes all around via local DNS but I don't want to do that, this setup is/was working on every other PC. any ideas what I'm missing? edit: just booted off of a live USB with F39, resolves server.local just fine. so I'm missing something in my installation, right? edit II: installed it (minimal) on another laptop, same deal - no .local resolution.
Hey, I use a 2020 i5 macbook. I installed fedora on it but it does not recognize the keyboard and touchpad from my mac. Works only with external keyboard.
