Lastest Build, DMGC

This is an open source project that adds a GBC processor and screen into a DMG shell. Have to say, I really enjoy the weight. The github can be found [here](https://github.com/MouseBiteLabs/Game-Boy-DMG-Color).

They tried to claim that they weren't ending the game boy line.......welp. Still waiting on that Game Boy Advance sucsessor any day now.... We all know the DS was the next Game Boy. WHY DIDN'T THEY JUST CALL IT THAT??? The original ones even played GBA, GBC, and GB games for fucks sake! The DS WAS a Game Boy. That's it. That's the end of the story.

The 369 in 1 can be reflashed with the Nightrap rom. Funny thing too, the bootleg shell feels higher quality.

My A button was requiring a harder press for the input to be registered than normal, so I opened up my GBC and noticed this transfer on the PCB. I guess years as a child hard holding A to improve pokemon catch rates had caught up. What's the best way to remove this? Isopropyl alcohol and cotton bud?

Limited Run Games did preorders last April fools 2023. No actual gameplay, just the movies in quality similar to the GBA video carts. Rom is 256mb. It doesn't load in the Mister, OpenFPGA, or mGBA.

Won this manual at a Good Will charity auction. Just wanted to share it here in hopes that it would make some of you smile as big as I did!

This game was so much fun in highschool. I never purchased the Lost Age way back then, but I saved my password for decades with the intent to pick it up eventually. I was pretty ecstatic about the games being released on Switch Virtual Console, but playing The Lost Age on the Switch... It just isn't the same. So I just started playing it on a modded 2DS. I have decided this is the console I'm going to finish the series with. Definitely better dpad (and joystick), comfortable to hold, and maybe the smaller screen helps it appear more like the original games.

Bought this little kit for a few dollars on aliexpress awhile ago figuring it was an interesting project. I would not recommend it and I've already revered back to stock. 1. It makes the cartridge bulge. 2. The long term reliability is questionable (my chip seemed like a rebadge). 3. It will not work correctly on the analogue pocket (and possibly the FunnyPlaying FPGA GBC). Also I wouldn't use clips like this for the battery when you can use the HDR retainer. This was done years ago and I don't have any more of those on hand to replace it.

DS Lite? Yes. DSi XL? For sure. 2DS XL, 3DS and its New and XL variants? You bet. But not a single 2DS aftermarket shell. Single backplates are sold here and there but not the whole assembly. What gives? Is the 2DS really that niche compared to its siblings?

Fun project to convert a Japanese cartridge to a Flashcart I assembled a while back. https://github.com/JRodrigoTech/FLASH-ROM-Adapter-for-GameBoy

If you haven’t given this romhack a shot, it’s worth a go. It tries to recreate the original 1997 demo of Pokemon Gold/Silver from Nintendo SpaceWorld. Link to STL file [here](https://www.printables.com/model/456246-gameboy-full-sticker-cart-repro)

The ReBoi kit promises to replace the Game Boy’s guts and display with no soldering required, but you’ll need to source the Game Boy and Raspberry Pi yourself.

Not the actual use case for this extender, but I think it's fun that it works on real hardware.

Never having had a GBA growing up (or really any gaming system), I recently decided to delve into the retro scene and try to reshell a GBA SP. I bought a board and shell off Aliexpress and a few reproduction cartridges. (VERY) stupidly wanted to test the repo cart without finishing the shell and ripped off the cartridge slot!!!! After much profanity and months before I could stomach looking at the thing, I buckled down and spent too much buying tools/supplies. Many many many many many Youtube videos later, I finally managed to reseat the slot and connect the damaged pads. Just thought I'd share that it's possible, having started only with very rudimentary soldering skills.

I have issues mit my GB USB Smartcard 64M. I am using `ems-qart` software under linux. The software doesnt find the card (screenshot attached) This is the message in the terminal: `Failed to open device, libusb error: LIBUSB_ERROR_IO Failed to open device, libusb error: LIBUSB_ERROR_NO_DEVICE Could not find device, is it plugged in? ` As I can see with `lsusb`, it is acutally there: `Bus 001 Device 009: ID 4670:9394 EMS Production Game Cube USB Memory Adaptor 64M ` Starting `ems-qart` as root doesnt solve the issue. I checked the cable, and used three different ones... but always the same behaviour. Any Ideas?

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/3415897 > Took all my games out of their protective cases and dumped them out on the table. Sometimes it's just satisfying to rummage through a bunch of carts, hold them in your hands, and admire the label art. Does anyone else periodically do this with their physical games?

Finally got around to tracking down Tetris 2, looking forward to digging into it more. Quick pick-up-and-play puzzle games like this are great on the Game Boy. Happy to add this one to the library!

At least until I opened it up. The two numbers at the bottom right of the label were there but they almost looked like they were printed on instead of indented like they were supposed to, which was odd. The lettering on the plastic was SO CLOSE to the original, but the font was just slightly off... At this point I was still questioning it, because the label had the right amount of wear, and because WHY WOULD SOMEONE COUNTERFEIT BARBIE?? XD But then opening it up confirmed to me that it 100% was counterfeit, I'm guessing a pretty old one. I made a video demonstrating some of the signs [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WiSZGWLO23E).

It's just index cards cut up and written on with a Sharpie. But it really makes things easier to find. :)

It gives you a nice excuse to use all those different Gameboys.

The Burnmaster is no available from their site, along with a [MBC3 gbc cart](https://funnyplaying.com/products/midnighttrace-gb-gbc-flash-cart) and a [32MB GBA cart](https://funnyplaying.com/products/midnighttrace-gba-flash-cart). The carts themselves looks like a decent value assuming they work with other writers but the flasher looks a little over priced to me since you have to purchase the case and buttons separately (total $30). The GBxCart RW seems like a better value unless portability and use without a computer a required.

Moving some of my more interesting posts over from reddit. This is a Super Gameboy with a crystal mod and link Port added. I found this [pcb](https://oshpark.com/shared_projects/rTdg2bjG), which is either a recreation or upload of [this one](https://store.thursdaycustoms.com/product/sgb-link). Following the steps there I was able to figure out the resistors and diodes to buy and the pins to use. The resistors on the board are marked as [220](https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/71-CRCW0603220RFKEAH) and there is a germanium diode.

I'm building soft mbc5 flashcarts. These games are willing donors to the cause.

I had a really hard time capturing the colors right here for the buttons and the minute hand. In real life, they're much closer than they look here. The GBA has a Funnyplaying IPS, and the watch is a HEAVILY modded Seiko SKX. Honestly, the only things original are the case, crown tube, and bezel at this point.

My Virtual Boy Pocket. Black OEM front shell, red OEM back shell. Glass lens from Bluish Squirrel. It's a red led backlight mod, biverted. I used a 4 position switch and some resistors for 3 levels of brightness and off. Next to it is a BennVenn El Cheapo that my wife was kind enough to make a label for to match the scheme. The action of the buttons is fantastic on this. However, the red backlight will sear your retinas out if you play too long. A couple of games of Tetris, and the whole world looks green for a while. I think it just adds to the Virtual Boy experience.
