I feel like you don't see a lot of vertical setups here so I wanted to share what I've done so far. I found having everything at the top was way too dense so I moved it to the side but added a second panel at the top in a different color (to go with the wallpaper) for the window buttons.

Some time ago, someone convinced me to try out Hyprland, and I've been working on this one ever since. It might look minimalistic, but not for the lack of trying. I still struggle with getting the colors right. Does any of yall have an advice about how to properly choose colors? The repo for the app is at: https://github.com/lasermtv07/i3colors The i3 theme is custom, the vim theme is sorbet and the alacritty theme is modified cyber_punk_neon.

I'm curious, what do you do about VLC if you use a tiling WM ? - Do you ignore the pain and still use a theme ? - Do you not use a theme and live with it messing up your nice color scheme ? - Do you just not use VLC ?

Removing everything from the Waybar I don't really use that much, rewrote the clock module (turns out you can do that), and just decided to embrace the "Tiling Window Compositor" vibe by relying more on keyboard shortcuts. ![](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Flemmy.world%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2Fd9653f96-143a-45db-bc95-1fbfe46660be.png)

I was unable to find Gruvbox light theme, so I decided to create one myself. The thing is still WIP and will be for a while but works for me atm. Key components are color scheme and desktoptheme. Over that I use *simp1e gruvbox dark* cursor, *Tela light* icons and *Sonokai espresso* Konsole theme (but I'm considering switch to gruvbox as well). You can explore it on my [GitLab](https://gitlab.com/j4n3z/plasma-gruvbox-light)

Using a less aggressive approach to rounding the corners on the desktop elements this time. Overall theme is Material-Black-Cherry but I color sampled the tree she's reclining on for the desktop elements. Gruvbox-Material-Black for the icon set.

Gentoo with a custom kernel made using the fantastic guidance from the wiki. I replaced the tux boot logo with an IBM one, I used this guide to do that: https://linuxlink.timesys.com/docs/wiki/engineering/HOWTO_Use_a_custom_boot_logo (is not that hard) Things that don't work yet: - Webcam microphone Conclusion about Gentoo: Waiting for packages to compile is annoying. But the flexibility and the Gentoo wiki makes up for it. Also Gentoo now has binary packages so I don't have to wait for packages that I don't care about to compile.
