There's eight genders in the Talmud

1. Zachar, male.
2. Nekevah, female.
3. Androgynos, having both male and female characteristics.
4. Tumtum, lacking sexual characteristics.
5. Aylonit hamah, identified female at birth but later naturally developing male characteristics.
6. Aylonit adam, identified female at birth but later developing male characteristics through human intervention.
7. Saris hamah, identified male at birth but later naturally developing female characteristics.
8. Saris adam, identified male at birth and later developing female characteristics through human intervention.

1-2 are what we'd call cis. 3, 4, 5 and 7 are different presentations of being intersex. 6 and 8 are what we'd call trans and also include eunuchs etc.

One could hope that might happen. But I imagine if faced between bombing a Christian Dominionist militia that executes non-whites and LGBT people and any BIPOC/queer friendly civil defence organisation that springs up to prevent that, the rump government would probably choose the latter.

Getting back into State of Decay. Doing a Warlord only playthrough. It's a challenge because I have to exile or send to legacy pool any non Warlord survivors (so 3/4s of all survivors) and it means I've got a real eclectic bunch of people some with quite good quirks and some not so much.

I had struggled in the past to play Warlord because you basically become jerks fighting and bossing about other survivor groups. But this time I've given all my guys matching military uniforms and bandanas and I'm roleplaying a kind of off the rails Maoist group. We live in cabins in the woods at a summer camp and have captured a wind turbine for our electricity needs.

It's been pretty fun.

I've got her copy too. It's good and actually more truthful to the time period. She correctly identifies slaves as slaves, not as butlers or maids or any milder term Victorian era writers use. As well as not hiding SA stuff under euphemism (or calling female victims "prostitutes"). There's a bit where Homer describes Penelope's hand as "thick" which she translates as "muscular" because a woman who has been weaving for years would have very strong muscular hands and arms.

The Syrian civil war is a really good example I think, because in a US civil war you will still have an existing rump government like you had with Assad and areas that are superficially peaceful and unaffected, meanwhile religious fundamentalists and all sorts of other militias will be duking it out with the government and each other in the disputed areas. And it might all ulitmately settle to an uneasy truce with the country nominally the same state, but chunks of it not controlled or occupied by foreign troops to protect strategic assets.

I think it might be worth a lot of us looking for large plots of land that we have legal access too and learn to grow food and start communities that aren't reliant on western consumerism.

There's a comic called Lazarus set in a dystopian libertarian future where the families of various corporations rule basically new kingdom-states. It's pretty lib at times and I stopped reading ages ago.

But there's a plotline where a bunch of families bought a homestead together to try and escape the crushing system. But when once in a lifetime floods due to climate change threaten to destroy their land, they are forced to take out a predatory loan to hire machinery to protect their farm, but it doesn't arrive in time, so all their crops and possessions are lost, but they still have the crippling debt and are forced to walk away and become sort of lumpenproletariat known as "waste" (versus "serfs" who have longterm jobs with "families").

And I think that is kind of a potential fate for any small scale left wing commune in the future.

::: spoiler Got back in to playing State of Decay 2 again (CW transphobia, REDDIT) In that game all of the survivors are randomly generated, but there's a limited number of premade faces, and those are apparently based of the studio staff in real life. I got a survivor who is a woman and they're kind of clocky, which I feel is a weird thing for me to think about a randomized fictional character, but there is a significant number of trans programmers etc so it's quite likely they're based on a real trans woman and it's cool to have trans representation in a the game.

So I tried to work out online if that was the case and indirectly found a reddit thread where gamers were talking about how in State of Decay 2 the game will also randomly assign gender neutral names/nicknames and they/them pronouns to survivors, which is cool and I hadn't realised that. And chuds were getting mad about it and saying people were misunderstanding the game just using plural they, despite other players showing evidence of singular they being used and the actual code that has gender m/f/x etc.

Then there was a comment saying "Trans people couldn't survive the zombie apocalypse due to all the chemicals they take" and it's a locked 3 year old thread and I don't have a reddit account anymore so it's not like I'm going to reply. But what an insane comment. Chemicals? You mean exogenous hormones +/- anti-androgens. And trans people who do not take HRT are still trans and valid, which might be a survivor in the zombie apocalypse. But also 18mths into a zombie apocalypse you might still find anti-androgens and HRT on the shelves of otherwise ransacked pharmacies, because people would take the painkillers and antibiotics leave all the rest. Finally you can get survivors with pharmaceutical training in game to craft painkillers and zombie cures, I think they could whip up some DIY hormones too. :::

There's been a lot of this on twitter/tumblr etc about Sabrina Carpenter. Because apparently if you find attractive a 25 year old pop star whose current stage persona is built about being sexy in a sort of old fashioned pinup "aww shucks" sort of manner, you are a nonce because she is only 5ft.
