In case anyone needs it for future reference the stylus on the original Z1-S cartridge just comes right off with a slight horizontal pull away from the cartridge. It is a lot easier than replacing the cartridge on cheaper players such as low-end Crosleys (eg. https://youtu.be/XtFBIa39U0U), so don't expect the procedure to be similar.

Awesome. Yes the previous owner is selling an unopened new stylus along with the player, I assume they bought it to have a spare one and never used it.

Thanks for the answer. Actually I think my post was a bit confusing, I will only be changing the stylus, do I still need to remove the cartridge for this operation as well? Or can I pull it off directly?

I'll keep in mind your suggestion for the upgrade!

  • I'll be getting a used JVC L-A31 tomorrow and it comes with a replacement stylus. I suppose ill be installing it right away as I don't know how old the one that is currently installed is. Any tips on how to make sure I don't break the tonearm or cartridge? I only replaced the stylus and cartridge once on a very cheap record player which uses one of those 3 euros cartridges, will the procedure be similar or should I expect some further complications?
