What are some of the rules about the Internet that were taught to you but are now completely ignored?
  • hexthismess hexthismess 6d ago 100%

I was taught to cite websites by using the date the page was updated. Now I'm lucky if web pages even have a date on them.

  • Have you known that wearing indigenous scarfs is antisemitic?
  • hexthismess hexthismess 1w ago 100%

I am a huge fan of weather.gov. I can get all the data and forecasts I want without a single ad. All the other weather services use the same data, so there is no huge benefit to using anything else.

I'm pretty sure it means Black Mold Futures, who was a poster here. I wasn't here for any of their posts, but from the references I've seen, they posted near indecipherable, highly specific rants.

  • Quitting smoking woes.
  • hexthismess hexthismess 3w ago 100%

What helped me was realizing that cravings were actually the onset of nicotine withdrawals. Smoking due to cravings just removed the withdrawal. I wasn't getting anything more from smokingremoved, just pushing withdrawal away.

I'm glad we're defederating from Hatebear. That place is full of tankies who spam emojis. Completely incomprehensible rhetoric interspersed with pictures of pigs shitting on their balls.

Plus, they all kept telling me to read books. Jokes on them, I just read the Black Book of Communism!

  • Government considering banning smoking in UK pub gardens and outdoor restaurants
  • hexthismess hexthismess 2mo ago 80%

This reminds me of the pushback against mandatory seat belt use in the US. It's absolutely in the public's best interest to ban public smoking and arguing that people should make their own decisions is ridiculous. Make smoking inconvenient for smokers and allow people in pubs and bars to enjoy smoke free air.

  • It's Happening - China Launches World's First Thorium Nuclear Reactor
  • hexthismess hexthismess 2mo ago 100%

Thorium is less reactive than uranium and less likely to meltdown. They need to add a kickstarter to the thorium to get it to react and it is easier to control this kickstarter than it is to keep uranium from reacting.

Also, there is more thorium in the earth than uranium.

  • China has installed more electric vehicle charging stations in the past 73 days than the United States has installed in the past ever
  • hexthismess hexthismess 2mo ago 100%

Like Ryan said, it is green washing if it's viewed as the end to climate change. The best solution is mass public transit and ending fossil fuel use.

The efficiency of fossil fuel power plant production is greater than the efficiency of a single ICE car, so the overall emissions are lower, but emissions will grow the more people drive.

Now if the power source changes from fossil fuels, then the emissions go down a lot, except for what is needed to exploit resources to make the cars and the power production.
