Kotlin is the better Java. C# is just Microsoft Java, it fixed some of Java's mistakes, made a few new ones, but ultimately it's just Java for .Net. I'd say the one decision C# made that really does make it better than Java (and puts it on par with Kotlin) is making variables non-nullable by default. Implicitly nullable variables is the single dumbest decision in Java. Fix that decision and Java instantly becomes so much better.

Talk about making it hard to find the details. Neither the FDA nor the NPR article has the list of products in it. I finally found the list by using the link to the manufacturer website in the NPR article. Both the NPR article and the FDA website look like they copy and pasted the manufacturers press release and left off the only important piece of info in it.

Edit: weirdly the treehouse foods article list this as the original. This recall is seriously weird, with the linked PDF going through an ad tracking affiliate link and ultimately ending in a broken link.

I was similar, used Linux for work/programming but Windows for gaming. I refuse to update to Win 11 though, and with 10 going EOL I was faced with a problem. I've been using Steam Deck for about a year now with no problems so I figured I'd try going 100% Linux again. Ran my Library through protondb and nearly every single game was supported. I made the cutover about a month ago (just in time as well as literally a week before I made the switch copilot got stealth installed on my system).

So far I haven't run into a single game that has failed or that I've even needed to change the options to get running. Now I don't play LoL so I can't speak to that specific game, and I have kept my Win 10 install if I do run into something that I can't get running that I absolutely can't live without, but so far I haven't needed to boot into Windows since I made the switch. I think you might be surprised how few games won't function in Linux these days.

While it's true I haven't personally tried more than about a dozen of my games I will point out that 1) that covers a wide swath of genres, publishers, and game engines, and 2) I ran my entire library of several thousand games through protondb before hand to have some idea of what I was in for and out of all those thousands less than 10 reported as not functioning. Of the ones that wouldn't work most actually can run, but the publishers are banning people who play under Linux. The most notable from that list would be Destiny 2 and GTA 5. So yes greater than 90% of all games run fine in Linux these days either straight out of the box or with simple configuration tweaks.

    Because you said:

You seem to be engaged in constant mental gymnastics adjusted to whatever thread topic is available to whataboutKamala in a negative light.

which implies they're twisting the topic to be about blaming Harris rather than Trump which they're very clearly not doing in this case. Leveling that accusation in a different context might be fair but in this case you're the one that comes off as engaging in mental gymnastics. This entire article is about criticizing Harris so comments doing the same are on topic. Your comment isn't even defending her, but rather attempting to attack the motives of someone agreeing with the article.

For better or worse Harris is who we're stuck with if we want to avoid a fascist dictatorship, but burying your head in the sand and engaging in personal attacks against anyone who points out that she's flawed and her policies aren't great isn't really helping either, it just makes you seem a bit unhinged.

I haven't looked at his post history so I can't say if you're right about that, but at least in this case his comment seems entirely on topic and appropriate and I'm not seeing an issue with it. The article is literally about Harris not condemning Trump's deportation plans and tacit support of the deportation program that Biden ran.

The apathy is directly tied to the DNC pushing conservative and moderate policies instead of progressive ones. When voters see so little difference between the two parties, where neither party is promising the policies they're looking for, then they see no point in showing up at the polls.

The problem isn't even moderates it's the out right conservatives in the DNC. Actual progressives in the party are a dying breed these days with the overwhelming majority being moderates and yet somehow the most conservative members are the ones that keep steering the policy decisions. Kamala is a conservative. Biden is a conservative. Tim Walz is barely a moderate. The DNC of today looks like the RNC of the 90s and that's not a good thing. Even Obama was a moderate and he's the most progressive presidential candidate I've seen the DNC run in at least three decades if not more.

Does NK have that many spare soldiers to offer? Seems like every other week there's more news of rampant starvation in NK, and it's not a particularly large country to begin with. I'd think they would need all the bodies at home they can get. On the other hand maybe they're just counting on the Russians to feed them.

If ever there was proof of that, Trump is certainly it. He's an absolute moron yet somehow still a highly successful conman, at least going by the metric of morons that believe him if not by actual money conned out of people (although he seems to have been depressingly successful at that as well). If there's a silver lining in all this it's that Trump is so stupid and incredibly bad at business that he seems to burn through money as fast as he cons it out of people.

Hmm, interesting, I've always heard them referred to as "The Church of Latter Day Saints" or LDS, I've never heard the longer version you used. I wonder if that's an intentional choice by some of the other Christian denominations to try to distance themselves from the Mormons.

Well ultimately I think it's because the differences between the various Christian sects are very minor and trivial. At the end of the day any Christian church is going to agree on all the major points, they've just spent nearly 2000 years bikeshedding the unimportant details. In contrast the various "satanic" churches are very different organizations. I think a better comparison would be if for instance Hubbard had decided to call his scam religion Christianology instead, and then you'd see little notes popping up all over the place that say "The church of X is not affiliated with Christianology". The closest to that that has actually happened is with the Mormon church, but since that doesn't have Christ or Christian in the name anywhere the difference is obvious.

Another important factor is that TST is actually attempting to promote itself and the beneficial work it does so it cares about its image. Not being associated with CoS and its checkered past is important to cut off some of the drama that could be stirred up by people conflating the two even if CoS is largely defunct now.

Part of the reason is they have very different goals from each other. The Satanic Temple is primarily a secular organization that promotes scientific principles, separation of church and state, and education. The Church of Satan on the other hand has a long and often troubled history with an at best ambiguous take on secularism and promotes a mild form of hedonism. Compared to most religions the Church of Satan is fairly benign, although still far more controversial than TST.

It isn't, and it doesn't need protecting. I say this as someone who was mining bitcoin back when it was still valued at under $1 a coin. The concept of bitcoin was really interesting and I had hoped that it could actually function as a digital currency outside the control of the major credit card processors. The execution however leaves much to be desired. We were promised a federated digital currency, what we got was an unregulated securities market.

Same thing at a smaller scale happens all over the place as executive and management teams packed with yes men and brown nosers feed a steady stream of bullshit up the ladder and minimize anything negative, particularly if it's a direct result of the upper level managements decisions. So many absolutely horrendous decisions could be headed off if someone had the balls to tell the CEO he's a fucking idiot and no way what he just proposed is going to work.

That can be true and she can still be the best candidate. There's a very long list of people I would rather see elected president but unfortunately the reality is that only one of two people are going to win. It's either Harris or Trump, and while I don't like Harris for many many reasons, she's not an existential threat to democracy like Trump is so she gets the votes. The only way to fix this is to get some kind of proportional voting implemented at the federal level. Personally I like STAR voting, but even the worse choice of ranked choice is still better than first past the post.
