Okay so I haven’t heard about her before this but, from this thread and a quick google search, I feel like I know enough. Anyway. I’m hopeful then that the fame will pass— lots of internet fad celebrities fade and become more or less normal people again soon— but she pockets enough money to live a good life and keep paying it forward.

This is a historic failure. Worst CinemaScore of any blockbuster, ever. Rapidly dwindling opening weekend predictions. Horrid numbers in international markets. Unless movies get a lot shittier, this will be in the top 5 worst crashes in my lifetime.

I don’t think a worse one could be engineered by anyone. Frankly, I doubt a single person thought a follow up the (until recently) highest grossing R rated movie, Oscar winning, massively successful Joker would be received like this. The worst CinemaScore of any blockbuster, ever!

Kudos to Phillips for burning eight digits of Warner’s money and giving box office nerds something truly special. Everyone wins but Zaslav!

Good. I don’t know why they picked someone as likable as Walz if not to get him doing media appearances.

While cringey, Trump’s appearances on podcasts or with young YouTubers is likely a part of his grip on young men. The left doesn’t reach out to them much and demographics don’t like feeling ignored.

Walz is an excellent communicator and should be on TV and such as often as he can. Hell, get him on Rogan. That moron seems so malleable that Walz will have him nodding along in the first 30 seconds.

Yeah. I started working out pretty heavy way back to stop being underweight but I still go multiple times a week to upkeep. I hate it but it keeps me from this shit.

Staying fit keeps most of your body working way better for longer. You can feel bodily discomfort in the gym on your terms, or at random on nature’s terms.

Recorded speech about engaging in crimes is often acceptable evidence. It’s probably the same with written messages.

I guess it’s up to the accused to prevent law enforcement from acquiring what they said, whether it be preventing recording, preventing police from sifting through mail or unsecure communications, or preventing police from acquiring the accused’s copy of potentially illegal communications. Which he is currently attempting.

I don’t blame him for trying, and would agree on a lesser extent that he is right to prevent self incriminating now. But copied communication as acceptable evidence is pretty settled in law by now.

Long Covid and chance of severe illness/death each time. Yeah, it sucks to feel like shit for a day or two, but I would regret trading that for long covid.

There’s so many places to go, incredible food to try, relationships to keep, new and old experiences in general. Long covid or death impacts every single one. So I always just sigh and get it.

Finally, it’s better societally as we could keep transmission low. There is always the chance that you get it and unknowingly spread it to someone with a compromised immune system and they die. That death impacts their family, friends, and the economy if that particularly matters to you. The social contract asks us to sacrifice a little for the sake of the greater good, but it does not demand it.

Still, I don’t terribly fault people for skipping it these days. That kind of risk is often accepted with non-covid things. Humans don’t like discomfort for the sake of a future maybe. If I wasn’t so concerned about my own quality of life, perhaps I’d skip it too.

Edit: I was scrolling through my calendar and realized another massive reason I always get the vaccine. It allows you to choose your own window of feeling like shit. For example, I travel a lot and wouldn’t want to miss any of it by getting covid. Choosing a couple random days to tank the shit feeling means a lower chance of feeling like shit in another country when I’m not prepared. Truly I envy those who feel fine after the shot.

I’ve seen a lot about this one being better. For me (I got Pfizer’s brilliantly named comirnaty) it was about the same if not a little bit worse. ~24hr of feeling feverish, significant body aches, sleeplessness, loss of appetite, vague feeling of unwell the same and next day. Was fine the day after that though.

These always treat me quite poorly. After my original second shot I was vomiting and felt truly horrible. But it hasn’t really improved since the third. Every time, I remember the incredibly low rates after the first vaccine, and lament what could have been.

Getting started is closer to a tenth of that— the starter kit linked is $10 pre shipping from a brand that is generally considered overpriced in locksport. Buying locks is the expensive part but you probably have a couple of padlocks to start with. And for those £20, you can get the knowledge and basic skills to open the vast majority of locks.

I’d personally recommend JimyLong’s starter kit if you can catch it in stock but hook and turner will work. Then don’t buy anything else until you know exactly what lock you want a thinner hook or different pick for; that set would open about any lock you can find in store. Spending £200+ to start out is more lockpick consumerism than an actual on ramp since you’d likely be bogged down by too many tools.

  • So I saw that first trailer and wrote the whole movie off. Months later, amidst the shockingly positive reception, I was curious enough to see it for myself. And damn, it’s actually pretty great and I saw it twice. Being a Transformers fan can be hard with the inconsistent quality, and I’m still surprised they pulled off a great animated movie where the robots were the sole focus. It also had many lore elements I’d long wanted to see on the big screen, which I won’t spoil. I think casual and longtime fans alike would enjoy it. Given the current underperformance, I’m not holding out for a sequel, but I’m damn pleased we got this one at all. I’ll forever be grateful to the cast and crew for bringing Orion Pax and D-16 into theaters.

I couldn’t read the article because of the paywall but I’ll speculate myself. I am a fan of the franchise and enjoyed the movie.

Sadly, I don’t expect it to see much box office success. The first trailer was truly atrocious (I actually wrote it off myself and only came back during the positive WoM), competition is looking strong, and marketing was dogshit. It looked too childish and undercut the compelling story of the actual movie. And loathe as I am to admit, appetite for Transformers content seems poor.

Since The Last Knight failed, general audience interest has not been good. The last of the Bay movies performed horribly and RotB underperformed, so the heavy action and violence doesn’t seem to be selling. Then the “good” stuff like Bumblebee and TF: One doesn’t attract the people there to turn off their brains and watch robots smash each other, and doesn’t pick up enough others to be largely profitable.

But I really think the marketing screwed it. Looked like a kids’ movie but was targeted at older fans. Kids don’t really care about Transformers while older fans didn’t want to watch a kids’ movie. Either way, I’m really sad to see how it’s going.

I mean, the title is entirely accurate. From the Wikipedia page about sleeper hit:

In the entertainment industry, a sleeper hit refers to a film, television series, music release, video game, or other entertainment product that was unpromising on release but eventually became a surprise success. A sleeper hit may have little promotion or lack a successful launch but gradually develops a fandom following media (including social media) attention, which in turn increases its public exposure and public interest in the product.

The movie has had a very much disappointing opening and the sequel looks suddenly in peril. If things continue like this, and it’s wrecked by Wild Robot, it will fail and be a sign of a “franchise in decline” as per the title— exactly because it’s number 10ish in a series that started 40 years ago. If it somehow succeeds from here, it is a sleeper hit per the definition.

I’ve never gotten one until today. An irl friend in another time zone hit midnight first and got served the skippable ad. Then my SO and I both got one at midnight even though I checked Wordle a couple hours before. This led me to think it was set to roll out at midnight local device time, but I guess not!

    > Clinton is a ready-made replacement. She possesses an unparalleled resume and an unmatched depth of experience. She has consistently redefined the roles she has served, from secretary of State and U.S. senator to first lady and Children’s Defense Fund attorney. Her extensive background in domestic and international affairs is not just impressive; at a time when global politics are increasingly volatile and complex, her experience is priceless. Her continued advocacy for children’s rights and health care—a topic of ever-increasing importance post-pandemic—adds another layer of appeal.

First, thanks again for making this app. It’s excellent and I’m always impressed when I use it. I have an unusual and possibly niche feature request inspired by Alien Blue: swiping forwards and backwards from any edge. So from the left edge you can swipe right as if to go back, but reverse the motion and go forwards instead. And vice versa. It feels like using momentum to navigate either way with a single finger. Discord also had this feature until the mobile app redesign. [Video example here](https://streamable.com/iwojmi), it says it’ll expire in two days but I don’t know where else to put it. This allows for satisfying operation and one handed browsing, such as when vigorously masturbating to tech news. I understand if this is too niche to add, it’s merely something I’ve wanted every app to have since AB. Thanks for reading! Ps, I would also appreciate an option to put the vote buttons on the left. Years of AB then Apollo have gotten me quite used to that, and maybe left handed people would appreciate it. No rush on either of these if you choose to work on them, I’ve been meaning to ask for both of these since the days of web app only. I actually meant to ask Apollo’s dev for the swipe thing too, back when it released in the App Store, but didn’t interact much back on reddit and never got around to it.

So the Ahsoka show has come and gone and I didn’t much care for it. I rather forgot how little I cared for Thrawn’s characterization because the rest of the show was, in my opinion, somehow worse than even the butchering (again imo) of Thrawn. Nonetheless I remain less than impressed at what they have done, and I am beginning to worry that Filoni’s film will be a solid stinker that joins the rest of Disney’s current critical and commercial slump. I also hope Zahn is unbothered out there and not disappointed that they threw out six books of characterization. Equally I’m sad we’ll never get the Thrawn/Ezra ally dynamic against the Grysk, that the Asdendancy crisis is likely out the window, and about the chance that we do not ever get books again. Zahn’s current characterization of Thrawn is so removed from Filoni’s that more books would probably be seen as at odds with the TV version. Well, not that Lucasfilm leadership much cares about readers’ opinions. A bleak post but those are some of my thoughts. It’s been a while since the show ended and it was (imo) so bad that I didn’t really care about what they did to Thrawn, but now that I’m reflecting on it, I’m not the biggest fan.

    5
    2

While this was resoundingly the expectation, I will admit some sadness that all of Zahn’s new characterization of Thrawn is being discarded in favor of an *Heir* redux. I’m glad Filoni is getting to live out his dream of Ahsoka’s story, I just wish it didn’t come at the expense of Zahn’s character, who he no doubt cared for much as Filoni cares for Ahsoka. It was wise of Zahn to make his continuation of the story— Thrawn and Ezra teaming up— known. I imagine he knew what was coming. The saddest part is that Thrawn’s entire characterization and purpose will likely never be completed, and the book series (where Thrawn truly lives, as film cannot delve into the thoughts of him and his crew) may end at Ascendancy. Maybe I’m jumping the gun and they’ll get it right, but it doesn’t seem likely.
