Are there any launchers that have Nova's 2 best features?
- Swipe-to-open folders (with tap to open the first item in the folder)
- Set any icon you want as an app icon?
I've tried Lawnchair and it was missing these 2 features. I will switch to any launcher that supports these!

The Shoe Bomber was caught because he was trying to light a fuse with a lighter. You cannot light a bomb with a pocket knife. If you want to ban something from planes, ban lighters

Yeah, and even "fawning" is generous. One just says, "There are some aspects of the Minimal Phone that sound appealing." Not exactly a rave review
This looks cool but... I'm nervous about pre-ordering from a company I've never heard of. Anyone know anything about these guys?

I didn't read Solrize's comment as saying "There shouldn't be paywalls," just asking the very legitimate question as to how they will interact with federation.
Interestingly, 404 just solved something kinda related: they developed a way for subscribers to get a custom RSS feed address, so they can access paywalled articles directly in their RSS reader. TMK, they are the first publication to do this. I imagine they would do something similar for federation. (I believe that if any of the custom RSS feeds show huge traffic numbers, 404 shuts it down, but I'm not sure)

"We're gonna get all the poors off the road so it's only nice cars"
I genuinely believe that car owners could be tricked into supporting FuckCars policies by a very crafty politician/campaign. It would work like this: 1. Proclaim your love of cars. Loudly. "I want to make our city the best city in the world for drivers!" 2. "What are the biggest problems drivers face today? Traffic and parking! Therefore... We need to open up roads and parking spaces..." 3. "And that's why we're going to cap the number of cars that can enter downtown. With increased public transit, we can free up these roads for drivers! That way: more parking, less traffic, a better life for drivers" Do the same thing for bikes: 1. "These bikers want to share the road, but [studies have shown](https://www.bicycling.com/news/a20039954/do-sharrows-actually-make-cycling-safer/) that whether you use sharrows, plastic bollards, it doesn't matter: people still get hurt. 2. And here's the thing: when a car hits a cyclist, it's bad for everyone, including the driver. Nobody *wants* to hit a cyclist. But the sad truth is that it might just not be possible to share the road 3. "That's why I'm proposing that we make some roads car-only, to protect cyclists." [Crowd of drivers cheer, and you quickly say:] "Also we'll make some streets bike-only, for the same reason." [And then when you get in office, just be like "Yeah the highway is for cars"] I'm available for speeches if anyone's hiring

There's a push to get OpenReads to work with BookWyrm
This happens a lot: I apply for a job and they ask for my complete address. Why? I would understand if they just want to know what city/town I'm in: That has bearing on how easily I can get to the office. But why do they need to know my *street* address? The only thing I can think: Indeed/LinkedIn/take-your-pick is building a profile of me based on this info, using my street as a proxy for my income, credit score, or, ultimately, for my social class. From now on, when they ask me, I'm just going to put a rich person's address. For this one I used a Brooklyn townhouse where Maggie Gyllenhaal and one of the Saarsgaards lives.

Last year Elon Musk accidentally revealed that he [has a burner account on Twitter](https://gizmodo.com/elon-musk-twitter-alt-second-account-ermnmusk-revealed-1850372199) called @ErmnMusk. Now that account is gone. I'm looking for an archive: its tweets, its likes, anything and everything. Does anyone know where to find?

I'm unable to load my own profile in Eternity. Having this issue across multiple accounts. Tapping "Profile" in the sidebar brings up my profile but it's empty, no posts load. Anyone know how to fix?
I just joined lemm.ee from lemmy.world. I was drawn to lemm.ee bc it federates with all the right instances. But my feed is behaving oddly. (I view Lemmy through the Eternity app on Android.) * I'm seeing posts from communities I haven't subscribed to, even when I view my "Subscribed" feed * I get a weird error when I try to comment on some posts (in Firefox@lemmy.ml, most recently) These issues didn't happen previously. Anyone know how to fix?

I'm confused. I've been using this extension for years on desktop without this issue. I think it has an option where you can install a companion conversion app on your machine and bypass the QR code. Am I mistaken?

My Asus Zenfone 8 is still going strong after 2+ years. Case and screen protector help, of course
I'm searching for a good RSS feed reader, but can't find a perfect one. Features I'm seeking: - Offline reading - Page turning/scrolling via on-screen buttons - E-ink friendly color scheme Here's what I've tried so far: - **Reabble:** I love this one, but it doesn't support offline reading beyond a few articles. - **FeedMe:** This one's great too, but page turning is only possible via physical volume buttons. My tablet doesn't have those. - **Handy Reader:** This one seems pretty good, but you can't change the color on the left-side drawer (where the list of feeds is) so I can't read it on an e-ink screen. Does anyone know of an RSS reader that meets these needs?

I'm looking for a way to pull images from my Lemmy feed and display them on desktop tiles, similar to [Scrolldit](https://www.scrolldit.com/). Ideally, the images would refresh every so often. Does anything like this exist? Thank you

I'm sorry, I'm having difficulty following your point.
That's a really, really crap argument that is permissive of all kinds of cultural genocide.
Isn't it the opposite? He's arguing that work of cultural importance should NOT be in private hands. You might say, "Who gets to determine what's culturally significant? And why do we trust governments to do a better job than private collectors?" Those are fair questions, I think, but then I get lost again:
A LOT of artwork is in private collections that by no right should be.
Right, that's what he's arguing too.
I live in country that used to "legally" buy and sell people.
Ok, so... You acknowledge that just because it's legal to trade in something, doesn't mean that it's moral or ethical. So is that also true of culturally-significant artwork?
See why I'm confused as to your argument?

Eh, "Good thing we had dangling pianos to drop on the guy who's been cutting all the cords on our dangling pianos" isn't quite a strong argument for the pro-dangling pianos side
Can you jam an FM radio signal with a FZ? Let's say, *hypothetically*, there's a guy who parks on your street once a week and -- for some reason that no one understands and he refuses to explain -- he absolutely BLASTS a butt rock radio station from his car speakers for 20 minutes at a time, so loud that it bounces off all the buildings on your narrow street and it sounds like it's coming from every single window. And when you go out and say, "Hey dude, I'm taking a call for work, could you not do that here? Or anywhere, really?" he smirks and looks at you like **you're** the one acting crazy. Again, this is a hypothetical. But in this hypothetical situation, could you use a FZ to jam his car radio? How? (I know that many people might call the police/311 and ask them to do something about this. That is not how I want to do this.) Thank you for indulging this completely made up scenario.
I'm looking for an EV motorcycle that can support 2 passengers. Anyone know of any? I've [read](https://electrek.co/2021/05/07/exclusive-sondors-metacycle-electric-motorcycle-updates-better-seat-passenger-footpegs/) that the Sondors Metacycle can fit 2. But that's all I've found. Seating on the Zero FX is [said to be tight](https://www.thedrive.com/new-cars/2022-zero-fx-electric-motorcycle-review-price-specs-range-ride), and other bikes seem specifically designed to cap at 1 passenger. Ex: the [Johammer](https://s1.cdn.autoevolution.com/images/news/gallery/johammer-j1-probably-the-world-s-most-stylish-electric-motorcycle-photo-galleryvideo_13.jpg) or the [Tarform](https://www.returnofthecaferacers.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/tarform-electric-motorcycle-1.jpg) *Maybe* you could fit 2 on the [Land Moto District?](http://landmoto.io/cdn/shop/articles/expedition_1200x1200.jpg?v=1693329133) But any owners in here know what that drops the range to? Thanks all

I'm having an issue w/ fullscreen videos since the last update (22 days ago). My computer will enter Suspend mode, even if I make a video fullscreen. This happens when I'm watching Netflix, YouTube, or any other fullscreen video. This is unusual; In the past, if I made a video fullscreen in Firefox, my computer would stay awake. I'm wondering if this is related to a bug fix in the latest release: [Bug 1853896](https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1853896), which addresses a previous bug in fullscreen video. - Is there a way that I can fix this? - Or, if not, can I roll Firefox back to an earlier version? I'm running Firefox 120.0.1 (64 bit) on Linux Lite 5.6 My hardware is an old HP Chromebox connected to a display via HDMI. Thank you Lemmy folks!
I'm interested in getting an electric motorcycle, but something I've been wondering: ICE motorcycles can be loud, and that can act as a safety feature, especially when lane splitting. I'm thinking about Los Angeles, where motorcycles regularly weave through bumper-to-bumper car traffic. The noise they make helps prevent riders from getting accidentally doored. Do electric motorcycles have any kind of artificial noise maker to achieve the same thing? Or does anyone sell a device that does this? Note that I'm **not** talking about generic speakers, because 1) I don't want to have to blast music all the time just for safety, and 2) most speaker kits are pointed BACK at the driver, not FORWARD towards traffic. Anyone know the answer?
I'm looking for a FOSS email client for desktop. (Windows and MacOS, for now.) Using [Airmail](https://bddf794624247cea6a0b-b4761d2ba0154d0278c36dbf2b3c114d.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com/airmail-macos-11498737130726.jpg) or [Mailbird](https://www.getmailbird.com/assets/themes/mb1/imgs/misc/laptop.webp) as references, I'm looking for a client with some of these features: - A clean, minimalist design - A left-side toolbar as a narrow band, icons only. - Bonus points if it can schedule an email to send later. I'm familiar with Thunderbird and there's a lot to like there, but design-wise, it's pretty cluttered, IMHO. Does anyone know of a FOSS desktop email client that looks clean? -OR- Is there a way to change Thunderbird's layout so it looks/functions more like Airmail or Mailbird? Thank you!
Tl;Dr: Beeper has rolled out a new app, Beeper Mini, just for iMessage. It claims that the new app is a privacy improvement over the standard Beeper app (now called "Beeper Cloud") The claims: All messages are end-to-end encrypted before being sent. Beeper (and Apple) cannot see your messages. Encryption keys never leave your device. Beeper Mini connects directly to Apple servers. There is no Mac server relay, like other apps. No Apple ID is required. Beeper does not have access to your Apple account. Your contact list never leaves your device. In another post, [Beeper says they plan to add Signal to Beeper Mini.](https://blog.beeper.com/p/beeper-cloud-and-product-roadmap) I currently use Beeper, but I do **not** give it access to my Signal messages. *If* these new claims about Beeper Mini are true, though, and *if* Signal is ever supported in Beeper Mini.... I might actually consider bringing it in. I would love to have fewer chat apps!
