Two years ago when I launched Exploding-Heads, Lemmy offered a way to let me play a small role in fighting back against: - censorship - deplatforming - propaganda - Big Tech tyranny, and - to help spread suppressed stories. I knew Lemmy had its challenges, but I hoped it would evolve for the better. Sadly after 2 years, the culture of censorship through defederation has only grown stronger. Meanwhile a better alternative has sprung up in the form of Nostr: - it lets you own your own profile - if you move to another Nostr app or site, you still keep your content and followers - it makes censorship very difficult - it is not perfect, but is evolving for the better very quickly. As a user you should not be at the mercy of instance operators who are - petty tyrants, or - benevolent dictators (who may turn tyrannical at any moment) I do not feel I can alter the tyrannical direction Lemmy is heading in and I want to dedicate my time and resources to a better alternative. Check out the list of communities with the most active users - it is certainly very different to what it was a year ago. I just wanted to thank you all for making Exploding Heads what it is today - a mechanism to use humor and facts to expose the truths the ruling class is trying to hide. Plus a few bonuses thrown in. Case in point, I never imagined a community on Relationship Advice would be one of the 15 most active communities on Exploding Heads. This proves the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. That ultimately the future direction of Exploding Heads lies in the hands of community members like yourself. Thank you all for everything you do.

However, our main advantage is that we do not ban accounts based on frivolous matters. Also, we allow anyone to open up their own community. Are there any liberals that are interested in opening their own political community here on exploding heads? Also, you can be sure that if you do open up that community you can prevent trolling of that community by banning people from that particular community. But I am seriously considering opening up a civil debate community where people act in good faith to have discussions about politics and various issues. This is a free speech absolutism instance. Users must personally block people or communities they don’t like. I’m encouraging people who don’t want to see offensive material to block dank memes or dank microwave taco if they are offended by controversial material. I will create an alternate account soon so that people can block me if they like considering it’s impossible to block an administrator. Glad we have the ability to boast that we made two bad ass communities. Anyway I just wanted to address a few different things. To all the people that I have rubbed the wrong way especially my good friends on the right side of the political spectrum and the center (and even a few on the left), im sorry. I can be a bit unhinged at times and a lot of times I’m saying things just trying to be funny but come off the wrong way. My political views are what they are (civic nationalist) and i won’t change. As far as speech codes go I wont be banning people for saying offensive things; I’m not interested. For the first time in a long time i banned some people for things I normally never banned people for, regretted it and unbanned those people. If people want to defederate from they will s asnd or already have. Only if in my mind it truly goes overboard will i ban people (basically calls for violence) and no i wont elaborate anymore on the subject, i have too much already. To all the people that visit us and lurk I just wanted to say thanks for stopping by, please post sometime even if you disagree with the posts you’ve viewed; again i wont ban you from the site. (although mods can kick you from communities and people have the right to block you) Furthermore i will say this; although I’m not interested in poaching people from other instances, I will give you one good reason to make an account at exploding heads. You will never have your account banned under any circumstances unless you make calls for violence or break United States law or are an advertiser for a company. You’ll have the peace of mind and knowing that your content will not be lost because some administrator decided to ban you like they do on big tech platforms, and other instances. Also, if you find yourself lurking here because you like the posts here and the people here but don’t want to comment or post because you are afraid of getting your profile banned on another instance, maybe you should ask yourself this question; why do I have a profile on that instance in the first place? As a precautionary measure, Exploding Heads has added threads.net to its block list. I like a lot of other users, was concerned about data harvesting and privacy implications of federating with Meta/Facebook/Instagram/WhatsApp/Threads. But actions taken yesterday by Threads convinced me there was no upside for Exploding Heads allowing threads.net to federate with us: - censoring content - how much Exploding Heads content would they let Threads users see. - discouraging users from following certain users - would Threads users really be allowed to follow Exploding Heads content or would it be a one way street where Threads pump propaganda into Exploding Heads. As you know defederating runs against the grain here at Exploding Heads, but I think this is the best decision till Threads proves (and demonstrates by its actions) the above concerns are unfounded. There are lots of Lemmy instances that will allow threads.net to federate, do you have a choice if that is important to you. Thank you for your understanding.
We have several niche communities and are looking for people to push non political content. Also we guarantee not to ban your account over frivolous matters and offensive speech or posts so long as they don’t break United States law or violate the patriot act. We do this so ppl don’t have to worry about losing all their posts and content. Any questions or concerns leave in the comments below but just know we aren’t changing our policy on speech

I rarely lose steam, i always am full court press when i post and give my opinion on the internet. My question to God was what do you want me to do in life? Keep on with my stuff on the internet or just disappear. The answer became abundantly clear to me. Im not going to go as far to say I’m on a mission from God but i feel my place is to continue to push forward with my stewardship of exploding heads, sharing news and trying to improve myself in my personal life. For those that don’t know i have been through a drastic life change in the past year and things are now becoming easier for me. If my other admin wants to add anything to this, please do so in the comments below. Basically, we are a free-speech instance, but all crazy and controversial comments and posts will be limited to the dank, microwave taco and dank memes going forward with special considerations given to the Donald’s community. We want a functional website and I think in all other communities aside from the ones I’ve listed above, we should have civil discussion and good faith conversation. If people go into communities that are not designated for crazy and controversial posts and start drama, then you will be banned from that community, but not banned from the instance.
I will handle it on a case by case basis and will show leniency towards people giving plenty of chances. Im Really happy with all the activity on the website over the past week. We’ve had good times, we’ve had bad times and one time I even cried on kapows shoulder. All kidding aside I want to seriously thank everyone for showing interest in this website (even the people causing drama in certain communities) and for giving us a chance and trusting me and my fellow admin kapow with your posts and content. I would like to note that we will never ban your account or delete your posts as admins unless it is an extreme situation that requires us by law to delete it, or breaks some of the essential rules that are needed to keep a website functional. We believe in free speech absolutism. On the subject of defederation, I humbly applaud all the other instances for not separating from us. I know you are under a lot of pressure from certain people and instances to cut ties with exploding heads. I humbly ask that we stick together and perhaps even take a stand against this bullying tactic from other instances that shall not be named. I have been addressing some of the issues personally with some of the people who crossed over to the other instances and might’ve ruffled feathers. My reasoning is this, we wont ban your account over frivolous matters and you will not lose all of your posts and comments. Other instances have many rules, regulations and speech codes and those rules are constantly change as they try to cater to the woke mob whose list of what is and is not acceptable speech in this world is rapidly changing. Although you may find that certain communities within exploding heads like Dank Microwave Taco or Dank Memes contain posts that may offend you, you can be sure that without a doubt that unless you say the most crazy heinous things like calls for violence or genocide, spam posting hate, racism or anti-jew or laying out plans for harming others or yourself, you will not be banned here. I would suggest that if you do create an account at exploding heads and dont want to see offensive material, that you block dank microwave taco and dank memes and your likelihood of seeing offensive material will decrease greatly, most of our communities are not offensive and we have great potential for growth and are looking for mods to drive traffic in certain communities and if you are interested in modding a community please let me know, also if you want to create a community then feel free to do so. I’ve helped several users over there after the reddit surge understand lemmy better. Listen i normally don’t care what ppl say or do but if we are visiting other instances as a favor to me of my friendship means anything to you, be friendly on other instances. If anyone at lemmy world is reading this, i apologize but truth be told my activities over there have been pretty tame for the most part, and I’ll apologize on behalf of the band over here if things got a little out of hand. I have always suggested blocking of communities and people as a way to mitigate defederation. I have never sought to get a website shut down and in fact, had my own community stolen a few times over the past couple years by malicious administrators for activities that they said prior were OK. I’ve tried being a positive force over there, but I wanna apologize for what goes on in my own instance, in regards to communities that people can easily block, and if anyone wants help learning how to block people or communities, I will be glad to help. I guarantee that I am not creating bots to attack your instance as I’m really just a tractor-trailer driver, using a shitty iPhone to do everything I do on the Internet. I personally am not anti-somatic, or a racist and people on this instance know that, but they trust me with their free-speech. For the past three years I have defended free-speech and giving people the opportunity to say whatever they like although there have been a few times where I had to kick people off for spam posting hate which i don’t allow. I am against the practice of teaching gender studies in schools below the age of 16, but I am not against people expressing their love for one another or people getting surgeries. I just have a personal belief that it should be kept away from children under the age of 16. I am not a Nazi supporter and as a matter of fact, my grandmother was born in Berlin, Germany, and her family was murdered by Nazis so personally, I want you guys to shut the fuck up about me being a fucking Nazi. I have always said if there is a Jewish person, doing terrible things in the world, then call him out for his actions, but don’t judge him by his religion. I have made many enemies with Nazis on gab and they don’t really like me that much and in fact, they’re the only community that I have trolled in the past three years. When I originally opened this community, I had 500 members both liberals, gays and conservatives and at first yes I gave Nazis a voice on my community because I didn’t agree with them and I wanted to see if people saw how ridiculous they were. I can’t help how certain people feel about other people, but what I can do is open up greater conversations, even if you don’t like it.
